Supernatural Power for Everyday People: Experiencing God’s Extraordinary Spirit in Your Ordinary Life by Jared C. Wilson is a wonderful introductory guide to understanding the Holy Spirit.
This is a book that is sure to be beneficial to believers in Jesus Christ who want to learn more about the Holy Spirit, regardless of how far along they are on their journey with Jesus Christ.
One of the first things that really resonated with me about this book is the focus placed on God and away from self. In today’s society, so many books (included those within the Christian genre) are centered on the power and belief in self. By no means are we to ignore the importance of what God has enabled us to do or the importance of believing that we are capable of achieving the things that God has called us to do. However, we must acknowledge that God is our Source and we are not able to do anything without Him. This is a principle that Jared understands and does a fantastic job of setting the foundation of this book on that principle from the onset.
I also enjoyed Jared’s honest approach to sharing the truth of God’s Word. He does not hold any punches or try to skate around truths that are clearly stated in the Word of God. With that being said, he does not write in a superior or egotistical tone. Just the opposite, he writes in a very conversational tone that connects with the reader where they are. This definitely made the reading experience a pleasant one.
This book provides a very solid introduction to understanding who the Holy Spirit is and His role in our lives. Jared sticks to discussing the Holy Spirit from the perspective of what the Word of God shares about Him and also includes helpful examples for readers to better understand the practical operations of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
The only knock that I have against this book was the fact that it loss my interest after a time. At the start, I was very engrossed in what was being shared, but as I got around the middle and definitely near the end of the book my interest level had significantly waned. I totally understand that this has more to do with me than it does the quality of the content of this book. However, I do believe it bears sharing, especially for readers who have difficulty staying interested and engaged with certain books from start to finish.
Overall, this is a well written book that is sure to be a valuable resource for new and aged believers in Jesus Christ alike. Even those who don’t know much about the Holy Spirit and His operation in our lives are sure to find loads of value in this book too. This is a helpful and enlightening book that provides and very balanced perspective on the Holy Spirit’s role in the life of believers in Jesus Christ.
