Redeeming the Feminine Soul: God’s Surprising Vision for Womanhood by Julie Roys is an interesting book that explores how women can develop a genuine love and appreciation for their femininity.

From start to finish, Julie takes readers along her personal journey to gaining a better understanding of who God intended her to be as a woman.

She opens up about her painful experiences and the mistreatment that she endured from loved ones and ministry leaders. She shares a variety of experiences from other women who have encountered circumstances that led them to question certain aspects of their identity and  femininity too.

This is clearly a book that is written for women, but as a man I found loads of value in it. It definitely gave me a glimpse inside the mind and hearts of women. It also shed light on how some women process different experiences, both good and bad. One thing I surely walked away with is a better understanding of how women’s perception of themselves can be tarnished by the ignorance and insensitivity of others, as well as their own misplaced identities.

I truly enjoyed Julie’s honesty and transparency. The fact that she was willing to address hot button topics (feminism and gender confusion) that many people tiptoe around really stood out to me. It was apparent that she did her research and was not biased by the opinions of worldly or biblical scholars. What I appreciated the most is that she asserted her position based on what God’s Word says.

Although every reader may not be able to relate to Julie’s experiences, I do believe they’ll be enlightened by the things that she shares within this book. Women who have felt ignored or disregard are sure to find value and likely a new perspective from reading this book.

I believe that this is a valuable, helpful and enlightening book. At its heart, it aims to encourage women to explore God’s love for them, then acknowledge and accept it. If women are struggling with not understanding their true identity in Jesus Christ and are interested in gaining insight into His original intent and design for them, this book will likely be a helpful resource.
